In this blog post I will share with you some of my favourite vegan places to eat in Aberdeen. Some of them are fully vegan whereas others just have some vegan options. Before we get started I just wanted to quickly say that you don't have to be vegan in order to visit or enjoy some of these places, they are loved by many locals and visitors.
BioCafe
BioCafe is located at Rosemount Viaduct, and it's a refined sugar-free cafe with a huge variety of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free food. All the food is healthy, and super colourful. Some of my favourites are the hotdog, the waffle with bacon and their smoothie bowls.
Bonobo Cafe
Next, Bonobo Cafe is an 100% vegan cafe with gluten free options as well. They are also located in Rosemount Viaduct, and they have a beautiful roof garden and the cutest cat, Mickey. The food is delicious and the staff are always really friendly and welcoming.
Roots
I can't believe it took me so long to try their food. If I was to recommend a non-vegan to try vegan food, this would be it. They have a food truck down at Aberdeen beach but they also do home deliveries. They have a variety of burgers, chicken wings, loaded fries and other yummy sides as well as dessert and milkshakes. I recently ordered the Southern fried chick’aint, the roots signature loaded fries and the mac n cheese with bacon crumble and it was soo good!
Foodstory
Next is Foodstory, which is located on Thistle Street, just off the west end of Union Street. It's a vegetarian cafe with tons of vegan food as well as gluten free options and they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. The cafe is very cosy and I just love the atmosphere there and it's always busy with locals and visitors. They also have an online shop with vegan products, household items, vegetable baskets and more.
The Vegan Bay Baker
Next up, the Vegan Bay Baker! I post about his pastries all the time on Instagram, the doughnuts are definitely the best doughnuts I’ve ever had and I’m sure everyone who has tried them, will agree. He has some amazing products such as yumyums, bread, butteries, shortbread, sausage rolls, savoury pies and so much more and it's all vegan. You can order them through his website or you can find them at many different cafes and shops in the city and Aberdeenshire. You can find the full list on his website as well. Bonobo cafe that i talked about earlier, also has them. One the places that I usually go to get the pastries from is Refilosophy (see below).
Refilosophy
Refilosophy is a refillery shop with eco friendly and sustainable products. You can take your own container and get fill them up with different foods such as pasta, legumes, nuts, tea, coffee, vegan sweets, vegetables and fruit as well as household products and everything is local from around Aberdeenshire.I would definitely recommend following them on social media as they post daily about new deliveries and products.
Cult of Coffee
Cult of Coffee is one of my favourite coffeeshops in Aberdeen, I’ve been going there for years and they have an incredible selection of cakes and traybakes as well as loads of vegan options and each time they have different ones. Some of my favourites were the vegan victoria sponge, chocolate orange cake and the gingerbread one. Their coffee is delicious and they make an incredible matcha latte too.
Mackie’s
One of my favourite ice cream places in Aberdeen is Mackie’s. They are located in Marischal Square, and they have loads of different ice cream flavours as well crepes, waffles, milkshakes and more. I was really happy when I found out they had vegan ice cream! I tried their strawberry and chocolate flavours with lotus biscoff sauce and it tasted soo good. I live nearby and it's so hard to keep myself from going every day!
Cup
I went to Cup during Aberdeen restaurant and had a vegan burrito with vegan haggis, vegan cheese, avocado, and hot sauce and i loved it. They have a huge collection of teas, and other hot drinks and they have plenty of vegan options on their menu. They are located right in the city, just off Belmont Street. And they also have the cutest decor.
Wagamama
So I know this is a chain restaurant but this is a place that I often go with a big group of friends who aren't vegan but I know I will get plenty of vegan options. Wagamama is a British chain restaurant with Japanese inspired food and its located in Union Square shopping centre. Ive never been disappointed with their vegan options and one two of my favourite dishes is the Vegatsu and also their Avant Garden dish which is in collaboration with Gaz Oakley, one of my favourite vegan chefs that i watch on Youtube all the time.
Revolution de Cuba
And lastly, Revolution de Cuba which is on Belmont Street, has amazing latin inspired food and again, many vegan options and loads of gluten free ones as well. And of course, their cocktails are incredible and its always a fun atmosphere and the staff are super friendly and welcoming.
Thank you so much for reading! Obviously there are many more places in Aberdeen that have some amazing vegan options, so I might make a second post in the future. I'm really grateful for having all those lovely places in Aberdeen and it's made it a lot easier for me to transition to vegan. For anyone who doesn't know, I’ve been vegetarian for 3 years and now vegan for one year. If you have any questions you can comment down below or message me on instagram @marisa.vogiatzi
